Hello!

Monday I will buy a cryorig r1 ultimate for my cpu cooling and after all measurements, the radiator will sit 3mm above the gpu backplate. This is pretty close, so I am.thinking about moving the gpu in the next pci slot..

I own this motherboard: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99S/

As far as I can see in the picture on the asus site, all pci slots are 16x , 3.0. It will alldusffect my gpu performance in alldusffect way I'd I move it to the next slot? I will still benefit from x16?

Thanks!

There could be some latency issues with the second slot though I doubt you would ever notice it. The closer the GPU is to the CPU the better, I bet for single GPU configs your mobo manual does recommend you use the top slot. It will work in a lower slot and like I said I doubt you would notice the difference in latency. But still if it were me I would probably use the top slot even if there is only 3mm of space between the cooler and backplate.

100% yes.

Wait, which CPU do you have?

To be certain you can call Asus 1-888-678-3688

I doubt it would be enough to make a difference in cpu temps, an air gap is not good at transferring heat even a small air gap. Just make sure you have good case airflow and the majority of the heat radiating off your gpu backplate will just be exhausted by the case.

Yep. 100% yes it will work. I agree with Dunlop0078's advice about airflow and using the first slot. Either way will work. You can always install a PCI slot fan above your card if your case allows. My case has an expansion slot above my 970 FTW that's installed in the first PCIe slot allowing for that cooling solution or I can use the PCIe 2.0x1 slot. For what? Idk.

Good :) Please let us know how that cooler works with your CPU.And which CPU is in there and if there was a different cooler before, which one was it? It's a relatively new cooler and your experience can help others looking at that level of cooling. It's an alternative to something like the Noctua NH D15.

Sure, I will be glad to give you some feedback on the cooler as soon as I got it (in like 2-3 days). I use a i7 5930k 3.5ghz stock. I will oc to a max 4.2 ghz for now. I used a Corsair H100i gtx, I wasn't impressed tbh, why? Because:

-quite mode noise level - acceptable; balance mode noise level - disturbing ; performance mode noise level - unbareable ; max mode noise level - could heaed it ehilr playing music in my hyperx cloud 2 and the case was shaking (literally..shaking)
- ambient temp 24°C : 28-32 °C idle 65 ° Aida64 30 minutes stress test on quite mode on stock frequency
-pump died after 1 year and half (was performing bad after one year - I was forced to use only performance mode to keep it cool)
-braided textile that covers the tubes pealed off after 1 year.

Would not buy or recommend again. Would not buy anything AIO under kraken x62/corsair h110i or h115i with Noctua industrial fans as a must!

Note that I am cleaning my pc every 2 weeks, keep it all clean, all in it"s place. This liquid cooler from corsair was the only bad thing in that setup, and I knew that after one week of using it.

No hate for Corsair, I love their products, I know guys that have used H100i v1 for 3-4-5 years without any problem..I was just unlucky, but I won't assume that lottery again with the risk of screwing up 2500$ worth of componentns.

Thanks for that :D. To see the other side of this coin will be appreciated.

I am really curious how the Cryorig will perform. If the Noctua looked better I would probably bought it because I care about looks. Don't get me wrong, performance > looks, that's a rule when it comes to computers but I invested a lot of effort in my pc, and I am passionate about it. All my configuration is black and white, I picked up all the components with that in mind, balancING the colors and the looks of it, so when I look at my workstation I want to see that passion in there. IMO Noctua is a very reputable brand, one of the best out there but they lack aesthetics and they do not listen to the community feedback. The community only asked for a larger variety of colors, nothing more and what did they offer? Some aftermarket black fans with brown insertions..it's dissapointing. If I had a ugly case, without a window and I didn't care about those things like many others, I had probably buy noctua's nh-d15. I can talk days about their design because I am an architect and I have a very subjective opinion about design in many things.

Looking at benchmarks, Noctua and Cryorig are very close in terms of performace, if not the same. Some benchmarks Cryorig wins with 2°C, in others noctua wins with the same difference. Not many people know about Cryorig because they are pretty new on the market compared to noctua, but the company was funded by people that worked for reputable companyes like Thermaltake, Phanteks, Cooler Master and so on..They funded Cryorig with the desire of creating the best cooling solutions out there. They learned from other's mistakes and invested that knowledge into their products offering performace without the cost of aesthetics, offering a lot of cutomization options and some of the best air cooling performance out there.
