Basics are lightish (<7lbs) and long battery life, but I would like 4 real cores and at least a basic dGPU if possible.

1. What is your budget?
$1600
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Anything from 14" to the 17.3" class but honestly 15.6" is probably best
3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080p+
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable
5. How much battery life do you need?
Need? Probably 4-5 hours. I'd like as much as possible though, willing to pay a bit more for more battery life.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I'd like to play games but I will be building a desktop also, so a basic dGPU will do here. The 1050 looks nice.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
I'm a computer science major so I'll be working with code.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
If storage can not be upgraded, 1TB total. Any laptop that has upgradable storage is a huge bonus. Also willing to pay some extra for that over a laptop without. I'd like at the very least the OS to be on SSD.
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Newegg and Amazon.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
I'd like to keep it as long as possible, but I could probably upgrade in a year.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
None.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I don't have a brand preference, but I've heard HP and Lenovo have put unwanted software in their laptops, I'd like to avoid that.
13. What country do you live in?
The United States
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Solution
to carry around and big enough in that price range sounds liek a workstation

a lenovo thinkpad p71 could fit the requirements

http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-p/c/thinkpadp

other models also could do well

i perosnally would recomend a good gaming laptop with low weight, if you are going to carry it, consider the less heavy models, anything under 2 kilograms will be a bless, remember that the chrager for such machine will be necesary once a day at least

Look at the latest hp omens they are pretty much what you are looking for.

You'll have to put the screen at 1920*1080 however or everything will become unreadable small. Windows scaling usually just makes everything blurry so it's not that great of an option. Also if you are talking about the 1tb ssd model with the i7 and gtx 1050 then go for it. The trackpad is alright nothing amazing but nothing bad either.
