I was having a problem with hardware reserved memory. I tried everything. It was showing 3.45 usable out of 8 gigs. So I tried one stick at a time in slot 1 on my laptop and they both worked with 3.45 usable out of 4 gigs. Then I tried one stick in slot 2 and the computer wouldn't even come on. So I'm guessing slot two would recognize the memory it just couldn't use it maybe? Can I just buy a 8 gig stick and put it in slot 1?
Can I use just 1 8gig memory stick?

And as to your last question (using 8GB in slot 1), we'd also need to know the exact laptop model, not just the OS type it's running.
