i have the Asus h81mk motherboard and a Kingston hyperx 4gb ddr3 1866 mhz installed
the problem is the motherboard reads it as a 2 gb 1333 mhz in the bios , os, everywhere
i have updated the bios to the latest version and it still reads the same
cpu is i3 4160
any help would be appreciated .-.

Solution
The SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of 9-9-9.

Serial Presence Detect is what the memory runs at when left on Auto.

1866MHz is the wrong memory for that motherboard. If it runs at all, it may not be able to run at rated specifications. How it runs is also subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs, which you don't identify.

XMP TIMING PARAMETERS
• JEDEC: DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
• XMP Profile #1: D3-1866 CL9-11-9 @1.65V
• XMP Profile #2: D3-1600 CL9-9-9 @1.65V

It is listed as using higher than normal DRAM voltage, you may want to try XMP or manually set memory parameters. Clearing the CMOS when changing memory may help.

thats true it's gonna be down clocked but what about the memory size?,its read as 2 gb instead of 4 gb
here's my ram model : KHX1866C9D3/4G

According to http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1866C9D3_4G.pdf the JEDEC default is 1333 MHz, but you should be able to use XMP Profile #2 (1600 MHz). Is it detected as 2 GB in either memory slot? If so, then it probably is defective.
