Looking to upgrade gpu at the end of the year

I am currently running on a pretty good gpu (R9 380 4gb) however I'm looking to upgrade next year. I'm saving up for a good gpu but I'm not sure which one. I'd prefer it to be nvidia but amd would be alright. My previous psu was really bad so after installing my R9 380, it decided it sexually identified as an explosion. It took out my motherboard and damaged my old cpu which was a pain in the both arse and wallet to fix. After that event I have been wary of my current psu (evga 750 B2 supernova or something along those lines) and I don't want it to become an actual supernova but it gets to pretty high temps (80 is the highest I've seen it get after gpu tweak started controlling my gpu fans again but it got to 92 when my gpu fans weren't working). I would like a gpu that I can rely on to be a decently sized upgrade from my previous so it can run games at 144hz 1080p but still be power efficient enough to not kill my psu. Any suggestions?

Solution
instead of using GPU tweak try using MSI after burner instead. also since you planned on upgrading by the end of year it is no use suggesting what GPU you should be upgrading to at this time.
