New rig. Any thoughts? Possible upgrades?

Just received a new rig and would like some input on it, and any possible upgrades I could do in the near future. Mostly what would be beneficial initially.
MOBO: Asus M5A78L-M
CPU: AMD FX 6300 4GB
GPU: GTX 960 Strix
RAM: 2X8GB 2X4GB
PSU: AGI 550 watt
Cooling: Hydro Series H60 and 120mm fan in top of case
Case: Cooler Master CM690
SSD: 120GB
HDD: 1TB
CPU is OC at 4.5 MGHZ and GPU (I believe, not at home to reference a for sure number) is at 1420MGHZ OC, if I remember correctly. As a reference, I can run PREY (2017) at max settings, 1920x 1080 at 60 fps, with occasional drop to 50 here and there. Mainly want to run modern games at 1080 with at least 45-60 fps. Idle temps are around 25c CPU and 30c GPU, full load temps are around 50c CPU and 60c GPU (never higher than 60c) after extended use. Any suggestions would be great, thanks in advance!

Solution

Keep it as is, and use it.
Save up your money, and build something all new in the future.
About the only things you may be able to save from that are the drives, and probably the case.
PSU sounds very substandard, except AGI is an acronym I can't decipher.
that CPU/Board is several years old, this would be my first path of upgrading probably.
the thing is, upgrading the GPU makes not much sense with that CPU, while upgrading the CPU will cause the GPU to be the limitting factor

SSD - Get larger than 120GB.
CPU cooler - Either a good air cooler, or liquid larger than 120mm.
PSU - Completely unknown, but does not sound good.

The CPU, of course, is an old line.
But presumably you already have this? I hope you did not buy all this stuff 'new'.

Did you buy this rig new if so it's quite bad and uses a lot of older components.

I'm a bit new to the PC scene, but from what I've figured out, AGI makes PSUs on more of the budget side, so perhaps an upgrade for that down the line as well? And basically, the suggested route for upgrades would be CPU first, and then GPU? I doubt Ill have enough to do both at one time, but that order is probably the best option then? And also, any recommended CPU or GPU to look into as far as upgrading goes?

Any meaningful CPU upgrade will entail basically a whole new system.
CPU/motherboard/RAM. Probably a new PSU to run it.

I did not buy this rig, or build it myself, to answer a few people. I received it in a trade (I collect game consoles, modern and retro. Traded a couple of extra consoles and games for it). I understand there are a lot of older parts in it, which is why I thought I'd ask some who know a bit more than I do about how I should go about upgrading it

So basically, suggested route would be to just upgrade everything? Any particular order I should do it, if budget is an issue, or should I just save and try to do as much at once as possible? It serves its purpose well enough for me at the moment, running cool and, so far, not having much in the way of limitations for what I'm playing, but I understand upgrades will be necessary at some point.

Ok, good to know. I'll save up and look into some more modern parts for a new build down the line. I'm still happy with it for the time being, as it runs what I need it to, and better than I had expected it to. It'll be kind of nice to research what's out there for a new build in the interim as well. Thanks for the input

it depends a bit on your priorities.

if you want to game at ultra settings, the GPU is too weak. however at 1080p any real upgrade will be held back by your CPU. at higher resolutions it might be alright on the other hand (for example a Rx580 or even GTX1070 for 2k) as the GPU needs all is power to draw the frames anyway and isn't held back by the CPU

if gaming at medium settings or below fullHD is alright for you, the 960 isn't as bad as people make it to be. friend of mine got one and I gotta say it's quite alright. in that case you may profit off a better CPU as the CPU sometimes struggle to deliver more than 60fps.

changing CPU+Mainboard+RAM is of course quite an investment. most sensible approach would be an AM4 platform with at least a Ryzen 5 1500X CPU. but this will mean ~400$ (RAM+Board+CPU)

personally I wouldn't connect a 400$ upgrade to this PSU though. so add another 50-100$ to the list

drives, cooler, case seem to be reasonable and can be kept
everything else will need an upgrade over time.

Sounds reasonable. I may keep it as is for now and save up for a new PC build completely with so much to upgrade already. Honestly, I've so far had no issue gaming at ultra settings, 1080p, with 60 FPS, with the occasional drop to as low as 50 (good enough for me at the moment), although the newest game I've run has been PREY (2017), so I'm sure there are much more demanding titles to reach those marks with
