DVD RW problems after Windows 10 Creators update

After the creators update my DVD drive has issues. It can play an audio CD using windows media player but not using the VLC media player (it just lists .cda files). Software discs are not 'seen' nor are comercial DVDs if I try to open disc in a new window, it just throws up a pop up telling me to put a disc in, whilst ejecting the disc that is in!
I think the drive is a Samsung Super Writer speed plus. It is shown in device manager as
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222BB SCSI CdRom Device
This may be a driver issue but searching for an updated driver from device manager tells me it is up to date. It is dated June 2006 provided by Microsoft. I've looked for more recent drivers but can't find anything on the Samsung support site. There are many sites offering driver updates but I don't know which of the many many sites to trust. Please can anyone help?

It sounds like the update changed some of your file associations. Reinstall/repair vlc and see if that fixes the problem. If not you can go to support on Sony's site and get the drivers for your drive. Install the newest drivers and see if that will fix it.

Thanks for responding. I only mentioned VLC not reading the discs correctly as opposed to windows media player being able to play an audio CD to highlight the fact that I don't think the issue is failed hardware (The fact that no DVD is recognised may be a hardware failure). I hope that it is a driver issue. I have searched all over Samsung's support sites for an appropriate driver with no success. I have always regarded 3rd party sites offering driver updates with great suspicion, but at the moment I can't think of an alternative solution. This being the case I'm looking for advice on which sites to try.

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately the links don't help me. Please look at my reply to indsup.

Unfortunately windows media player only recognises and plays tracks from an audio CD, VLC just sees the .cda files and nothing recognises any DVD or disc containing software.

Ok couple of extra points - I had a virtual drive installed (probably to do with reading an ISO image in the past). I've uninstalled that using add/remove programs (or is it apps these days?) Now VLC can read and play audio tracks. Drive still doesn't recognise a DVD.

It could be that the DVD laser has failed at the same time that the Creators update was applied (Coincidence?)

Also the device was migrated configured and started at the same date that the Creators update was applied

Device SCSI\CdRom&Ven_TSSTcorp&Prod_CDDVDW_SH-222BB\4&10ed5902&0&050000 was migrated.

Last Device Instance Id: SCSI\CdRom&Ven_TSSTcorp&Prod_CDDVDW_SH-222BB\4&10ed5902&0&050000
Class Guid: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Location Path:
Migration Rank: 0x0
Present: true

Also I have just found and checked the motherboard user's manual it's a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 and I can't find any mention of a SCSI interface.
