Sending texts over wifi with Verizon?

Hello, I hate when I have to turn cellular data on to send messages. Especially when I am getting 1x or extended network, and can't send anything at all. I own the iPhone 7 and am looking for a solution to send messages over wifi. I have no knowledge of a feature that can do this except for wifi calling, but I assume that's just for calling. Any help is greatly appreciated!

you can with iphones but if i recall you can only send texts over wifi if you are sending to another iphone imessage to imessage and you cant send text over wifi if you are trying to send a text to someone that doesnt hve an iphone

When your text font is on blue and when you are sending text's to a number thats not an iphone the font background color is green just a little fun fact about imessage

Unless your cellular provider has specifically set up this capability, it can't be done with most text messaging apps. SMS (text messages) are transmitted over the same radio and channel used to ring your phone when you're getting a call.

However, you're using an iPhone. Aren't you using iMessage? That's a gateway messaging app, not a direct SMS app. When you're sending a text, you're not actually sending a text. You're sending an iMessage message to Apple's iMessage servers, and it converts it to a text only if the recipient is not on iMessage. (Similar services like Google Hangouts and Facebook Messenger do the same thing on Android.) It should work the same over WiFi as it does over the cellular network. Check your settings to make sure you haven't set it to SMS-only (which will only work over cellular).
