Has someone connected a External DVD burner with one USB 2.0 outlet to two USB 2.0 outlets?
My DVD burner doesn't work and I believe that it has too little current. Can it be a problem if I do such a connection?

Burners are supposed to use a USB cable with two connectors. With just one, they can't get enough power to burn. Your DVD burner probably came with a cable with two connectors. And at some point someone used it with a cable with one connector, saw that it worked for reading, and put the proper cable in the drawer. They can usually read DVDs just fine with one connector. But every one I've seen needs two to burn.

No you can't hurt a device by using a two-connector cable. All it does is increase the max power the device can use from the USB ports. If the device doesn't need the max, it won't use it.

It needs to get power from the wall.
USB alone cannot provide enough.

I bought my DVD burner myself and it's made for only one usb connection. It's only 1.5 years old. All new Eternal DVD burners in the market, except for the Buffalo make [it's the only one I know of], has only one usb connection, and no power connection from the wall. I don't like that at all, because it creates problems. But the makers want to compete with the price on a hard market.
