I recently ran into a problem with my HDMI output with my desktop.
Im using integrated graphics as I don't have a dedicated gpu yet.
HDMI used to work completly fine but then overnight a lightning strike tripped the whole house.
Obviously because of this it is likely a hardware fault however VGA works fine and eveything works as normal when starting up with VGA plugged in.
So i thought it must be only the HDMI port that got damaged by lightning.
However then to my surprise if I have started up into Windows with only VGA and then plug in HDMI, it detects it fine and works fine. I can duplicate or extend at maximum resolution and even only show on HDMI all working perfectly.
I can even unplug the VGA and it still outputs to the HDMI alone without problem, but if I was the restart the desktop it would then not output anything to HDMI anymore.
To add to the confusion if I was to startup with nothing plugged in and then plug in the vga it obviously outputs to that fine, but if I then plug in the HDMI it doesn't do it detect anything. Same thing happens if I startup with both connected.
Because of this obviously the HDMI port didn't get damaged by lightning so I don't know what the lightning surge could have done because the problem looks software side.
I have updated, reinstalled and even rolled back the display drivers.
BIOS is the latest version
Hardware I'm using is:
Asus H81m PLUS
I5 4690k
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB RAM
The display is a 1080p 50" techwood tv.
Im using this display for VGA and HDMI simultaneously
