Hey all!

I've been using a used hdd from a friend for the past year on my pc. In the last two weeks, I've been having serious problems that left me only able to access Bios and the automatic repair screen. After struggling with my pc for a few days I eventually was able to get to my desktop (by clearing the hard drive and reinstalling windows.) At this point I've had enough of this hard drive and am ready to upgrade to a new ssd! I would like to put my copy of Windows 10 on the ssd and get rid of the old hard drive once and for all. My question is, will windows allow me to install on a different hard drive? Do I simply uninstall the old hard drive and install the new ssd? My windows 10 came with a product key that has now been used, I just don't want to put myself in a position where I have to buy a new copy of Windows.

Thank you for any and all advice!

Solution
You can do a clean install of Windows to a new SSD using the same product key. Changing motherboards is what cause Windows to throw a fit.

You can also clone your current hard drive to the SSD. So that you don't have to waste time reinstalling everything. Many SSD come with free cloning software you can download from the manufacturer. If you get a model which does not include a cloning program. There are many free cloning programs.
