Is my SATA port broken or is my hard drive broken?

Hello, I recently finished by build for my computer and I used an SSD for my OS but I'm planing on using a hard drive for other stuffs. But, when I plugged my hard drive into my motherboard and went to the bios to look if it was detected there was nothing. Being worried, I tried plugging in an optical drive and it was detected. What I'm trying to ask is that, is my hard drive broken or is my SATA broken?

Is the ssd an m.2?
If so they tend to make 1 sata unavailable.

first try with another sata data cable and with another sata power cable to see how it responds

if the sata port found the optical drive i would rule out the port as damaged, the cable or the drive are different situations
