hi
i'm planning to buy new 2 TB harddisk
i have bad experience with seagate 7200 1tb harddisk as it failed

so i wonder if the new Seagate Barracuda series ST2000DM006 7200 2TB have improved reliability over the old series( ST2000DM001) or not?

i lean toward the WD Blue 2TB but it is 5400 rpm
my main concern is the reliability over speed so if the seagate have same reliability as WD blue 2 TB model then i will get it as it is faster

P.S: i can't afford WD black series and there is no other brands than Seagate and WD in my country
Thanks

Solution
for gaming 5400rpm is too slow.
for movie storage it's fine

the drive is listed in shops for less than a year.
too soon to tell if they'll fail after 2-3 years

And the only hard drive I've had fail in the last few years was a WD.
So our experiences cancel out.

Between those two for reliability? Flip a coin.
(Don't get a 5400 RPM drive)

I have already 1 TB 7200 harddisk that is full so i will need another harddisk to free space and use it as storage
and i hate a harddisk to die so which of 2 models will be more reliable and live longer?

Either one.

We ALL hate it when drives die.
This is what backups and warranties are for.

you got what i meant as there was generation of seagate 1tb and 2tb 7200 series that was quite death prone as you said so i wonder if this issue still exists in seagate products or they have managed to solve it and improved it ?like this model (ST2000DM006 )
- i know 5400 rpm harddisk are slow but i will use this harddisk as archive storage to save movies and games so speed isn't essential for me but also have quick hard is good in case both brands have same reliability

Hi,
Which one did you buy finally?
I'm in the same confusion (same models) as you were. Had a bad experience with Seagate before and if deciding on going to WD, the speed is just 5400.
If you have bought one, how's your experience with that ?

from my experience
it depends on your type of usage to harddrive
if you will play games or put OS on it than you will have either to get seagate or Western black
and if you will use for archive/store files than you might get WD blue in case you are not comfort with seagate reliability

Can't afford WD Black. And going to use it for just storage of multimedia and pics. So i think I'll go with WD Blue now.
