Wiring House with Ethernet

I have RJ 11 Ports all around my house, even though they are useless to me. Could I change that port to an RJ 45 port, as there are a lot of extra colored wires in the back that are similar to a RJ 45 wire. If I do that, could I send a signal from my router to my basement, where all the other ends of the wires are and hook all of them up to the connection using a switch. In conclusion, I would like to change all my ports in my house to RJ 45 and connect all of them to the internet using a switch, which is connected to my router.
Edit: I realised that only one port in my house has cat 5e wired to it, and it is the worst possible location. Since every other port has 2 cat3 wires connected to it, can I somehow make that work as a 1 gigabit ethernet?

Do you know what type of cable was used? If not, it's usually printed on it. If you have cat5, 5e or 6 then you're good to go, change the plugs to RJ 45 (follow the colors marked on the connectors and you can't go wrong)

As for what you can do once you get the signal to your basement, you can either feed one cable at a time to other rooms in your house, or connect a 2nd router in the basement (if it's not possible to use your 1st one there). What you can't do is connect more then one computer at a time to a single outlet from a router.
