I'm having major issues playing games lately. I built this PC over a year ago. I'm not too software savvy, and i'm not very great at troubleshooting electronics. The issue i'm having is any game I play, plays just fine with 60-70+fps has been like that since I built it. Now about 2 weeks ago I can play 60-70 fps for a couple hours then it just goes down hill from there, getting 10-12 fps. Doesn't matter what game it is it seems like. I shut it down, stop playing for a bit and i'm good to go for another couple hours. It almost seems like a heat issue but i'm not 100% sure. I went and cleaned out my pc with canned air. Installed malware bytes, AVG, ran full scans and nothing came up, and i'm still having this issue. Any thoughts or ideas would be great. I also installed cpuid HW monitor and i'm not exactly sure if it's a heat issue or not. Everything seems to be normal range.
I7-6700k @4.00 Ghz
16GB ram
GTX 970
I also have a 250gb ssd and 1tb HD
I can't remember what else I put in this pc. But I can get what ever is needed to help solve this issue.
Update: I ran memtest last night and it came up with no errors.
So I was looking at this program msi extreme tuning utility. I don't OC or anything but anytime I have the lag issues i have 100% thermal throttling

also noticed the core frequency drops as well
but my cpu doesn't reach above 50
