Hi i have 2 monitors that i've been wanting to use for a while but i haven't been able to get both of them to work. The monitor that works is connected via DVI to HDMI and the second one (not working) is HDMI to HDMI. I have a gtx 1070 windforce oc and i wasn't sure if the card is unable to run 2 monitors or i needed to download a program or something along those lines. Please help, any feed back is appreciated.

Other information: CPU, AMD FX-8320 8 Core Black Edition Processor. motherboard, MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard

Hello,

You have not gotten an answer yet, but I encountered the exact same issue as you with my 1070. With only 1 dvi slot, plugging in an hdmi said my monitor was not detected.

I found a solution though. It turns out that a lot of hdmi cables are not able to help a gpu connect to a 2nd monitor. A long cable might circumvent that. It has to do with how hdmi only allows one connection from the gpu or something.

If you instead connect a display port-hdmi, it might work like I successfully managed to do just now.

I have my 2nd monitor connected via dvi-d to hdmi and my 1st monitor connected via dvi-i to hdmi.

I don't think that should make a difference but maybe the monitor is set up to use specific cables?

Also, in your display settings, there is "identify" and "detect" and above that should be a screen showing you if your computer detects more than 1 monitor. What is shown for you?

Ok, some basic diagnostic questions.

What is your graphics card?

#1 Power cord is plugged into the monitor and into an outlet?
#2 Are monitors the same or different?
#3 Is screen completely black/unresponsive? or waiting for signal? or?
#4 In the screen above that shows how many monitors you have, can you select the 2nd one and force that to be your main?

Your graphics card is definitely more than capable.

Someone probably knows more than me and I would recommend you wait for that person, but for now, my only suggestion is to use a different port on your graphics card to see if that is the issue. For example, my 760 has 1xDVI-I, 1xDVI-D, and 4 times HDMI. I have both DVI slots used.
