I have a quite old computer and want to add this new graphic and ram, will they run?

Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M-DS2V
Processor: Intel i3-2120
Graphic: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 2GT Dual Fan OC 2GB
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL7

With the processor only fits DDR3 1066/1333 RAM but that means that it won't work or will it work slower? Also, with that old processor will the graphic and ram run well or i'm kinda throwing the money?

PS: I don't know much about computers :(

Solution

While a low end PSU should be more than enough, and thats a normal size case I'd guess (I can't find it anywhere) so the card will fit fine.

Can you explain me a bit more about xmp? I don't know about that. How do i select it? And will get the computer really hotter? I mean, increasing it to 1600 will be risky? I want my components to last long

That information is incorrect, that board does not support XMP nor running memory over the max supported speeds of that board which is 1333mhz. So you can buy 1600 mhz memory however the fastest it will run is at 1333mhz, hence don't pay extra for it. It will work though. TBH you'd hardly notice the speed difference.

Upgrading to 8gb of ram and that GPU should let you run many newer games at a reasonable level with the details turned down to medium and low. Its a decent low cost upgrade.

Check memory settings in your motherboard's manual. Running modules at their rated speed doesn't decrease their lifetime; however running them at higher than their rated voltage is not good for both the CPU and memory modules. Read page 25 at http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-h61m-ds2_e.pdf You can use them at 1333 MHz if you are worried about running them at 1600 MHz; the performance difference will be minimal.

Again, this board does not support XMP or 1600mhz, the memory will only run at 1333 max.

As per Gigabyte: Support for DDR3 2200(OC)/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules, but they may be wrong.

Bizarely while it lists that if you look at the QVL it lists memory up to 2300mhz with a note next to each that says "downgraded to DDR 1333". Not surprising being an H61 chipset.

Yeah, in fact I am doing this update because lots of games I used to play don't run me anymore (like rust, etc.) I hope with this update I can be some more years with that computer. Will all connections fit, right? I don't want to buy them and notice that too late xd

I have 600W (Silenzio Power, LPK16-35) and the case is an Innobo Middle, INN 15399.

So the PSU is enough, right? The case is 38.5x35x17.5 cm, I guess it's fine. Thank you for the help, really appreciate it. I was really lost with all that stuff :D

Anyway I'll check the size of the graphic module and I will make sure it fits. Thanks for your help

I found a GTX 1050 4GB at good price (25€ more), would it fit too? MSI GeForce GTX 1050Ti AERO ITX OC 4GB GDDR5. Is it worth for 25€? I mean, i will be able to stay more time without changing it and maybe 2gb of graphic is low. What do you think? Is there a big change between 2gb and 4gb?

Yes that is totally worth it. and it will fit. That card is faster than the 1060 3gb in some games.
