Hello,

We are working on upgrading all of our internal computers and are trying to decide between switching all of our team over to high powered laptops or whether we should go with desktops again. We are currently using a mix of different kinds of desktop computers. If we went with laptops we would look to have at least 1TB of internal storage for each but that is becoming less important now that we are all using cloud storage.

We are leading electrical and electronic specialty wire & cable manufacturers and our team frequently travels so we like the idea of having a portable device, but we also want to be sure we have the power we need to help our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible!

Three Questions:

1.) Would you rather have a desktop or a laptop? If so why?

2.) If we went with Desktops what brand would you recommend? Why?

3.) If we went with Laptops which brand would you recommend? Why?

i would have the it and cpa for the comp sit down and see what is cheaper for the comp. to own a pc or rent a pc. depending on the tax laws it may be cheaper now to own then give the pc after 2-3 years to local school or library as a tax write off donation. from an it repair it better to have desktop then laptops. desktops use most time standard ram and hard drives and mb. always have one or two know good parts for testing/repair.with laptops under warranty you mail them in for repair. out of warranty you have to pull them apart without breaking the case to swap out screens or mb that have failed. laptops have one weakness there small size they will run hot on a desk without good airflow. look at dell g or i3 itx pc.

Hello, thanks for your help. All good advice! The newer technology laptops we have tested have not been running hot, that was something we wanted to plan against. Good thinking! Yes we like to go the route of using a product and donating it to help kids or those less fortunate so that is our plan. We really like the Dell 14" business class laptops so far.

Any other ideas from the forum group? Would love some feedback. Today we sold a large order of Belden Equivalent Cable https://1xtechnologies.com/wire-cable-products/belden-cable-equivalents/ and we had some issues with an old computer, one of the ones we need to replace. We had to process the order on a different machine. Let me know.
