i5 6500 bottleneck the 1060

So i bought this CPU i5 6500 and a strix 1060 overclocked to max manually and am experiencing bottleneck i think. Everyone else is saying that it is no a bottleneck but this specific application is the opposite. Thanks

Well, you are running Prime95 which has nothing to do with the GPU.

Go run the most demanding game you play, then check your usages.
Generally speaking those two pieces of hardware are a good pairing.

There are a few games that the i5 will bottleneck on. Which games are you playing where you think you are bottlenecking?

other reasons why i thought this will happen was because whenever i launch chrome or file explorer spikes to 80-90% and then comes down gradually but on OW its stuck on 80-90% in game at 144fps cap with medium-high settings on 1080p. i know this is not bottleneck but there may be a fault with the cpu? Thanks

Everything can be made to bottleneck anything else with the right mix of software and settings. The name of the game is moving the bottleneck beyond the performance level where you cannot be bothered going any further.

I haven't played OW much, but BF1 will bottleneck some in large online matches. Not sure about DOOM either but it shouldn't be too bad.

The i5 won't bottlneck in Doom, however I'd update your mobo's BIOS to the Kaby Lake compatible BIOS found on the product page for the board, and return the 6500 for an i5 7500 or if possible an i7 7700.

hey chug again. yes i requested a refund saying that the guy tried to sell me old stock. Mobo is already updated and am willing to get a i5 7600k. Its a z170 board as that was the cheapest in stock.

Don't go for a 7600k, even then a 7700 will perform far better.
Consider waiting a while without a running PC and getting a 7700k along with a good air cooler, much better value both currently and in the long run.

I know, it's a good $80 more than the 7600k, but you don't want to find yourself needing another CPU upgrade in 2 years time, because at that point an i5 will really be struggling to keep up with most modern titles due to the move towards multi-threading.

I already have a build and i got the noctua l9-65 which i am also going to request a refund so i will buy a 7600k with a h100i v2 or one of the krakens. Which cooler would fit that. I really want a liquid cooler as im into aesthetics as well. Thanks

Yeah I remember!

Wait, DON'T get a water cooler, extremely poor value in your case, aesthetics are good and all, but if performance doesn't match up the water cooler is a waste of cash, get the 7700k and a good air cooler instead like the H5 if it fits your case.

between these two the h5 is 168 which is over the limit of 156. however a review page for the case says that the limit is actually 170 or so. should i risk it or can i measure it my self?

Going for 144FPS, so you have 144Hz monitor? Pretty much every CPU on the market is going to struggle to keep up that rate on many modern games, even with 5GHz overclock.

Well he's talking about Overwatch, which allows you to set your own framerate limit. My G4560 will push 120-140fps pretty easy in Overwatch using RX 470 4GB.
