I have a home wireless router and repeater using the same Wifi name, and my laptop is connected to that wifi name, "Paul Home". Does that mean I'm automatically connected to the best "Paul Home" network, depending on whether I get better connection w/ the router or the repeater? Is the system smart enough to automatically switch me to the better one? If not, how do I know which one I'm connected to?

Casual PC user here, thanks for the help guys.

Solution
by default , the Wi-Fi roam mode on a laptop is normally set to medium hunting ... meaning if you drop signal under 3 bars it will try to use another one, so basically closer you are to repeater, better the chances will be it will hop over to it and vice versa. and yes its automatic. you can go to device manager on your Wi-Fi card and change it to 5, but it means it will constantly change over 10db loss and will in fact be detrimental as the Wi-Fi will be constantly hopping from one to the other for not good reason, delaying information flow on your Wi-Fi.
