MY SPECS:

CPU: I5 6500 (Stock of course)
CPU HEATSINK: Hyper 212 EVO (Keeps CPU at 18-22 on idle)
GPU: R9 380X
MOBO: H110M-K (Cheaper MOBO but great quality for the price)

NOTE

I been making a lot of threads lately, but I finally made up my mind on if I should get a GPU or CPU, so this is that thread.

QUESTION:

So if I got the money I am going to get the GTX 1070, but I don't know if I will so yeah, but if I do go GTX 1070 will my CPU bottleneck it at all in 1080P 120Hz? Now if I don't have the money should I go RX 580 or GTX 1060? In the videos I seen the RX 580 performs better, but will that be the best option over the 1060?

GAMES I PLAY:

PUBG
Rift
World of Warcraft
CSGO
Minecraft
Witcher 3
Fallout 4
GTA IV and V

Solution
The CPU will likely bottleneck in more CPU intensive games but will be a significant hold up in a lot of modern games for pushing over 100+ Hz. At that range you'd ideally want a stronger CPU but it should handle easier games just fine at the 60-75 FPS mark before holding you back. The GTX 1070 is definitely the best choice for 120 Hz 1080p but out of the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 the performance is very similar, you can really just go with whatever you prefer but by cross-game averages, the RX 580 is indeed stronger by about 2-3% at most so the better pick if you want the best performance possible even by decimals. If you have not purchased the monitor already i strongly advise a FreeSync one, paired with the RX 580 it would be a great...

It seems you have done some research already, but here are some great in-depth comparisons and reviews if you have not seen them already:

Solution
In dx11 games the 1060 still has a lead, depending on the title
In dx12 games the Rx580 performs better

The games you've listed generally favour a 1060.

As for bottlenecking: the CPU will most likely bottleneck in GTA V, as I doubt it's able to sustain 120fps on average (but I might be wrong there)

I agree that a GPU upgrade makes the most sense
The 1070 is about twice as powerful as your current card, the Rx580 is 150% as powerful as your current card.
Both would substantial upgrades. For a 120Hz screen I'd go into the direction of a 1070.

I already ordered and its free-sync. So the rx 580 would then be more "future proof" then?

So with a GTX 1060 at 1080P what would be my FPS in the games I listed, would any reach a average of 120 or is that to high for a 1060 or even RX 580?

I don't know about more "Future-proof" but the RX 580 is defiantly the way to go if you've already ordered a FreeSync Monitor, Nvidia cards can't utilise FreeSync at all and it's a nice feature to have.

If it is paired with an AMD GPU which supports Freesync, the monitor's refresh rate becomes dynamic, and will match the outputted frame rate unless it goes past the monitors maximum refresh rate. This eliminates most screen tearing.

For GTA 5 and the wither which IMO are the most intensive will better from a GTX 1060.

There is much more to a gpus performance. Comparing clock speeds between two different gpus is like comparing apples to oranges. It's best just to compare benchmarks.

So overall what will be the best one to get the RX 580 or GTX 1060? (For me on amazon the 1060 is cheaper than the RX 580)

How much cheaper? I would for sure go with the RX 580 when paired with a FreeSync Monitor. As for the Witcher 3, according to benchmarks I've seen the RX 580 is actually stronger by 4-5 FPS (see Digital Foundry link above). GTA V is in favour of the GTX 1060 6GB though. But if your aim is longevity, the RX 580 (8GB version?) would be the better pick. It's a fraction stronger on average, better performance in the newest APIs (Vulkan, DX12, etc) and FreeSync will help keep it smooth when it starts to fall behind in the coming years. The extra 2GB VRAM would also be a bonus if it's the 8GB version but the card may or may not be outdated by the time 8GB is necessary anyway (unless you move from 1080p).

In both the Techspot and Digital Foundry reviews, the 580 and GTX 1060 6gb perform within 3FPS of eachother in 1080p at Witcher 3. Not much of a difference there.

NVIDIA are working on improvements withing new APIs, and (hopefully) performance will increase in the future with new driver updates.

Nvidia will most likely even performance with the 580 within DX12 in the 'future'. I believe they have already started.

If you really love to f..k with drivers, voltage, PSU and MSI AB.

R9 290x is my first and last Radeon.

Thanks everyone, I been thinking on the RX 580 as well. About the stupid wont buy a AMD GPU again because my ancient one sucks is a bunch of horseshi* why not try out a new one?? That's like me saying I wont buy Nvidia because Nvidia has to many fanboys.... (Makes no sense)
