PC crashes, conditions says overheating, stress tests say otherwise

Hi Everyone,

I've had my PC for 3 years, and once or twice a month it crashes. Monitor goes black, says no connection, and speakers play a jarring sound until i force it off. It usually happens more often when playing a graphic intensive game, and even more often in hot weather So i thought overheating. I stress tested both the CPU and GPU, GPU hit 82C max, CPU hit 75C and after 2hrs no crash on either. Repeated both tests with fans set to min, still no crash (100% load on both). Memtest said the memory was fine. Process of elimination said PSU issue, so temporarily replaced it with the an one, still no crash on tests, but crashed when playing games. Even switched the memory for a month (although that was a year ago) and still had crashes. I have no idea what's causing these crashes, if its overheating surely the stress tests would pick this up? Or could the drives/MoBo be an issue?

Specs:
CPU: i7 3770 @3.4Ghz
GPU: Sapphire HD 7850
Cooling: Hydro series H80i V2
PSU: Corsair TX 750M
MoBo: Asrock Z77 Extreme
Hardrives: Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB Serial-ATA 3.0Gbps
Corsair Force GS ATA SSD
Mem: x2 DDR3 4g dual channel , 666MHz 9-9-9-24

I would appreciate any and all advice.

Many thanks!

Solution
1~Go to Power options and in the advanced settings tab look for -Processor power management,
then set the Max to 100% and set the cooling policy to-Passive.
2~In your BIOS set your fan speed to Max(or set a max limit of reachable temp)

Lets see if this helps or not.!
All the best.

I haven't monitored temps whilst gaming during a crash, in general temps seem to be 10C lower than max for both, but ill set that u now QARTS.

6 months ago i had to reinstall every driver, but ill do a reset for the GPU as you suggested JPE 1701.

Im unsure how to check the VRM or main chipset Smorizio? i have a temp sensor for just the mobo, it doesn't state anything else about its location. I have noticed that the mobo temp sensor recorded temps of around 75C during game play (havent seen it for stress tests). But i dont know if this is normal or not.

@jpe, nice ill order one of them. Weirdly enough suffered a crash whilst monitoring temps as you suggested QARTS and they didnt rise above the temps ive seen for normal game play (75C). Unfortunately this rules out drivers as i uninstalled last night which was a massive pain. the mobo did have slightly elevated temps from the norm, ~78C, not much but perhaps enough?
