Dual boot using icydock caddy?

I have two drives both containing a Windows 10 operating system and applications which I use to effectively create two completely independent "machines" on the same PC that are used for different tasks. One is a conventional 3.5 inch HDD, the other is a 2.5 inch SSD. Only one is ever connected at a time and I've been simply swapping a SATA power cable between the two to choose the one which boots. I'm looking at a more elegant solution involving the icy dock mb971sp-b caddy which provides slots for both a 3.5 inch HDD and a 2.5 inch SSD and individual power buttons. My question is regarding whether or not the power buttons are the mechanical latching types that physically connect or disconnect the voltage to each drive, rather than "soft" power switching that relies on internal electronics. As I'd need to set the power button state before switching on, a mechanical latching power switch would be essential in this instance so that only the desired active drive is powered on startup. If anyone can confirm the above and validate that my thinking is sound regarding this kind of dual boot scenario, then that would be most appreciated.

Since this is an issue that is obviously of importance to you, would it not be a more sensible approach to contact Icy Dock's tech support at their website for a definitive response to your query?

You might also try directing a question to verified users on Newegg's website re that model for info.

BTW, we've been using a different mobile rack model for many years, We've probably installed (or helped install) hundreds of these mobile racks over the years. (The rack is equipped with a removable tray (caddy) which is our preference.) There's an ON-OFF power switch (button) on the rack - I haven't the foggiest idea whether it's a "mechanical latching power switch" or a "soft" power switch as you mentioned in your query.

All I can tell you is that in the thousands of times we've used the power switches in scores of racks, I can't recall a single instance of failure or any associated power problem.

The mobile rack we use is at...

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. Well, I decided to take the plunge and buy one anyway. I'm delighted to report that the power buttons are indeed the latching type, so my mechanically pre-selectable dual boot system works like a charm. Very pleased.
