My current setup consists of the following:
Amd fx 8350 water cooled
Msi 1060 3gb gaming x
2x4gb 1866 ram
Gigabyte 970 am3+ motherboard

I'm finding decent FPS in games but not exactly what I expected, I have a friend with an fx6300 and R9 380 who is getting considerably higher FPS in games.

All my temperatures are nice thoughout (between 20-30c) so really am just wondering if there is any particular reason my pc might be not reaching it full potential. Thanks.

Solution
The fx6300 and the fx 8350 are basically the exact same cpu, one just has slightly more Lcache and 1 more node (2 cores), and for most games, especially single thread heavy games, they get almost identical results. It's only in multiple thread games that the extra 2x cores make any difference.
So no, in cs:go which is single thread heavy, your friends cpu and yours are of insignificant difference.
This'll leave other factors as affects on fps. Can be anything from LAN throughput, gpu settings in GeForce Experience, monitor resolution vrs DSR, amount of system ram, speed of system ram, optimization of game (the R9 380 isn't all that shabby and in some games ties or beats a 1060/3) etc.
It's a well known fact that many ppl try to...

cpu is weak for gaming, you will never see full performance from the 1060

your friend playing at the same exact settings and resolution?

cpu overclocked?

not much difference between a 6300 and 8350 in gaming, so if his is overclocked it's going to be better

No overclocked and same settings, both his CPU and GPU are worse components than mine

what games?

are you sure about settings?

resolution?

install msi afterburner and monitor gpu/cpu temps/speeds while playing a game

Just basic games like csgo and 100% sure was at his house today

yeah its a well known issue with csgo and new gpu's

older gpu's run better on it

we get a lot of " my old setup ran 300 fps, upgraded the gpu and now I only get 100 fps" kind of threads

The 6xxx is lower performing than the 8 technically, but in most real world situations they are pretty close. Your videocard is substantially better than his, so in anything GPU dependent your performance should be well ahead.

The problem is in your posts you have not specified what games and the framerates you are seeing.

It is possible to streamline your system performance for gaming. A person who has 10 programs booting up with Windows might expect less game performance than someone who boots up with a minimal amount of background processes. There are a lot of possible variables involved is what I'm saying.

It's a well known fact that many ppl try to emulate what they see on YouTube reviews and constantly complain that they get much lower fps from identical systems. It only takes a few changed settings, bonuses like 500Gb professional cable access on a $500 router vrs your 100Gb residential cable on a $40 router to make a difference, but nobody really thinks about stuff like that. Could simply be that your friend sees less input lag to the monitor or even has better inet speeds, which are important to multi-player online games, as well as having certain affects in his gpu turned down.
