Hi, wanted to know if this 60 fps cap is normal or do I need to do some optimization in order to get more fps?

System specs:
Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz
MSI - Z270-A Pro ATX mobo
8GB Dual Channel DDR4-2133 RAM
MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3GB

While gaming at 1080p on max settings my fps caps at 60.
GPU temp/usage around 62 degrees/80-100%
CPU temp/usage 45-50 degrees/35-45%
RAM usage about 4100MB

My buddy asked if I had V-Sync on, thinking that might be whats keeping me at 60fps, which I did. So, I turned V-Sync off but, no fps gains at all. Only difference I did see was that with V-Sync OFF my GPU usage was about 10% higher than with it ON throughout game play. I don't think this is normal since V-Sync should ONLY control your fps to match the refresh rate of your monitor correct? If I'm wrong or if anyone can give me any insight to my issue or if this all seems normal please let me know!

Lastly although I'm at a 60 fps cap, the game runs smooth with amazing graphics so I wouldn't think there is anything wrong but, I'm pretty sure I should be able to get more than just 60 fps..

Solution
I'm assuming you have a 60+ Hz monitor, and thats why you need the higher fps.

Short answer: It's "normal". They capped it at 60, with no way to circumvent.

Long answer: Sorry but these kinda games are usually developed with consoles in mind and get sloppy pc versions. It happens more and more often, and in the controls department as well (dark souls anyone?)
Nier is capped at 60fps because some guy with a suit and tie in some meeting decided no one needs more than 30-60fps - again coming back to the console bit, as televisions is in this Hz range.
No modders have done a patch or anything yet i think.
Good old skyrim/fallout 3 also had similar issue. There it was capped at 60 because they have tied physics to frames rather than time...

Ah, that makes sense then. An fps cap never even came to mind. I was afraid it was lack of optimization on my part or worse, a hardware issue. Thanks for taking your time to answer me, really appreciate the help, and happy I can enjoy my game without any worries!

On a side note, I have my 1060 gpu overclocked to around 2150MHz, would it be a waste running my gpu at that clock speed in a game with an fps cap like Nier? Should I use a stock clock profile just to use for games with an fps cap?

Your welcome :)
It won't matter that you have your gpu overclocked, it wont utilize all that power, and should only take what it needs for the 60fps, so i don't think you need to change your clocks. It's unnecessary for this game, yeah, but it won't hurt anything.
Capping fps has its advantages, like VSYNC, which is capping your fps at your monitors Hz range, thus using less power and less cooling, and be more quiet.

In that case, I'll just use the stock clock speeds for this game. I've been playing with my gpu oc at 2164MHz and fans at about 80% at 50-55 degrees this whole time, raging at the fact that I'm only getting 60 fps lol

Thanks again!
