Hello, just selled my x99 system:
-An i7 5820k Processor.
-An Gigabyte x99 gaming MB.

Now i cant decide where to go, i game, and do video encoding, thats cpu was perfect but, its slower in games, and i dont want to keep that cpu overclocked forever and fried it to keep fast enough for new games.

Well, all new games are using more than 4 cores, i know that, thats i dont want an 7700k (4 cores, full gaming, weak on multi core, so meh) and i'm planning to go Ryzen or new Skylake-X system.

-If Ryzen, i would go for the 1800x, an 8 core 16 thread, is faster than my old processor, but i knew by some articles on internet, x370 system fails with high speed rams, where i want to put all my 4 rams there, but dual channel is something... "bugged"? So it keeps the memory at 2133 mhz, Ryzen speed is influenced by memory speed, so thats why im little afraid to get an x370 system.

-If intel i would go for a x299 system, just a good nor ultra illuminati extreme motherboard, and an i9? 7820X, 8 core 16 thread, and 4,5 ghz boost, that makes a extremely good at gaming and multi tasking performance.... But the money, intel makes my budget cry.

Help me decide about this, please, i promise cookies for all! :) Haha

Solution
the latest bios updates allows u to go for 2933 speeds easy. in some 3200 models, even the full 3200. further bios updates will sort out these issues.

You should do what I'm doing right now, waiting for AMD Threadripper to release. It COULD (not necessarily) lower current Ryzen CPU prices.

If you're not up for waiting, I'd go with Ryzen. The 1700 at $330 (I've seen them commonly for about $310) is an amazing CPU. Looking at gameplay, it definitely looks more smooth on the 1700 than the 7700k, despite it "being slower" in gaming. It's not all about the ghz. The 1700 would be a FAR better buy than the 1800x, you save almost $200 for about a ~5% performance decrease that could be solved by just increasing the CPU a few hundred mhz. Use that $200 for getting a 1080 ti versus a 1080, or a 1080 vs a 1070.

The ram bug is mostly dependent on the motherboard from what I know, but it's recently been fixed, and people are reporting up to 4000mhz ram (which is ludicrous, but still, many are having luck above 2666mhz and 3000mhz as far as I'm aware.

Check out this thread, I've been posting extensively on the 7700k vs the r7 1700, but there are still people discussing things like ram (and there is another good ryzen thread about memory that's on techpowerup as well):
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/amd-ryzen-discussion-thread.231316/page-33

This article here has the upcoming lineup for the CPUs on both amd and intel:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2017/05/29/massive-leak-reveals-monster-18-core-intel-core-i9-7980xe-processor-should-amd-be-worried/#314f5bd634cf

Intel's side has a lot more information missing than the AMD side, but just judging by looks, a 32 threaded AMD cpu's TDP will be between 140 and 155w, but the 24 thread intel processor will have 140w tdp, making the AMD chipset more energy efficient (which should translate into what you'll need to cool the thing). Either way, at least for 99.999% of people, anything above a 1700 is overkill (heck, arguably anything above an i5 is overkill).

for power-gaming, i suggest on intel, since they have the upper hand, but since u don't want to go for i7 7700k i suggest either u buy a 1800x build or wait for the new gens (i9, skylake-x, threadripper, vega, volta) and then decide the best build that suits your needs

for the 1800x build, get 1080 or 1080ti for smooth gaming, although u should consider about ur monitor refresh rate. also REMEMBER: G-Sync Monitor cost way more than a Free-sync monitor :D

if u want to save budget for the next gen, i say get threadripper/skylake-x with Vega as your VGA since the rumours said it's on 1070 -> 1080 level and the Freesync monitor will help u save some money :D

Already have an gtx 1080 Ti Fe and a Samsung 4K 60 hz monitor, 4k 60 fps on games is perfect for me.

I'm waiting for computex, and waiting what intel will say about Skylake X and their prices, then wait to hear about amd threadripper and their prices, if none of them r good for my budget i will go for a Ryzen 1800x , well, i have the money for an 1800x and a Crosshair VI hero, but the only thing that stop me from buy ryzen is the ram speed, if 4 modules are installed, the speed cannot pass 2133 mhz, if oced the system dont even post, so at least, when ram speed bugs where solved, Ryzen 1800x would catch my eye

well all we can now is wait and see i guess :wahoo:

Well, looking at computex, Threadripper is not an option, extremely huge cpu and i dont want to change my cooling system again

Intel side, i would get a core x i7 7820x 8 core with higher clocks, but .... Oh damn intel they used tooth paste again with core x, and dont want to ruin that expencive cpu deliding it because they used tooth paste as a thermal solution between die and ihs.

That makes ryzen 1800x more attractive to me, but i'm confused, again.
