1080 ti terrible noise

Heya.

I'm currently running a gtx 1080 and recently tried the gtx 1080 ti. Definitely only tried because the ti was making loud noise while running demanding games at 1440p (it wasn't high pitch, didn't sound like coil whine). It was particularly noticeable when i was moving my mouse around in-game. The 1080 is not having the issue at all (on equivalent settings). I also noticed that tweaking the AURA lighting on the ti wasn't properly working and the lights were quickly shutting down right after a specific effect choice, having me triggering the ON/OFF button to try another effect.

At some point i suspected my PSU but it's a 700W Gold, so should be fine. Any idea? thanks.

The 1xxx cards seem to run well off lower power then previous generations. Just exchange the card where you bought it or RMA it sounds like you got a bad one.

CIA24's probably right that your 1080 Ti you got was unfortunately a bad apple of the bunch. But, what PSU do you have specifcially? 700w and Gold rating does not automatically = a great PSU. There are gold rated PSU's that use terrible qualiy parts.

Going from a 1080 to a 1080ti is not a huge power jump like 50 watts max right?

depending on the version of the 1080 and 1080 ti, it could be anywhere from 50-100 watts. Like i said CIA is probably right about you getting a bad apple 1080 ti that needs RMA or replacement. But what PSU do you have out of curiosity? Or are you unable to remember, which if so i understand.

Thanks guys! I'll check my PSU reference this evening.
RMA is already underway, hopefully, i was just unlucky this time and the next one will run like a charm.

I agree. That part worries me the most.

But i ran http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/ and the recommended Power Supply is 555W.

Well, i guess the next card will give me a good hint about the flaw being is on my side or not.

So, I received the new GPU. The AURA is working well aaaand the sound persisted...bUT.. turns out the sound is actually coming from the PSU when under load. My first diagnostic was wrong (still the AURA was broken :p). Anyway, i need to go shopping for a superior PSU!

What power supply do you plan to buy?

I honestly don't know :( My current PSU is quite small 150 x 150 x 86 (mm) and nothing else would fit. Plus i'll have to rewire everything because it's not modular.

That is a nice power supply I am sure you will have no issues with it.
