CPU for Alienware 17 R3 Temperature seems high please help

Hi,

I have a gaming laptp Alienware 17 R3 with high end specification like CPU: i7 6820HK 2.7Ghz , RAM 32GB , Graphics GTX980M 8GB ---- etc

i notice the idle temperature of the CPU about 55C , and while heavy gaming the temperature reached to 85C

Please advise me is temperature abnormal in this laptop , ? i didn't notice any crash or anything else while playing games.

But i felt the temperature quite high compared with my high end gaming PC which the idle temperature of i7 7700k about 35 to 40C.

The laptop cost me about 3200$ this is very expensive so the cooling should be better than the current temperature reading.

85C is just fine. Normally laptops tend to run hotter than desktops, and this is the case with you as well. There's nothing abnormal about this, in fact 85C wouldn't worry me too much in a laptop. Unless temperatures ever go over 90C, I wouldn't worry too much. Plus, there's not much you could to to decrease that temperature other than just getting a new laptop or claiming that the current one is defective, which it isn't.
Plus, that's one of the most powerful laptop CPUs, so it tends to use more power and hence generate more heat as well.
All-in-all, nothing to worry about, the temperatures are okay. I would still keep an eye on them, if they ever go above 90C you might wanna look into it.
However, if at this temperature you ever do...

Shektron is right. 100c is max temp for that CPU before Intel felt throttling would be necessary to preserve stability and longevity, so laptop manufacturers design their cooling systems to keep a CPU under 100c. Much lower, and they're just wasting space and weight in the laptop, and making it unnecessarily expensive.

Many enthusiasts feel they know better than Intel when it comes to cooling Intel CPUs, and go to great lengths to lower temperatures, however.

Thanks guys for your answers , i believe it should be fine now as i can see your both replies saying the maximum Temp goes to 100C

i tried to make a CPU benchmark using CPU-Z for 15min , and i saw the temperature goes to 93C in the CPU

however while gaming at Ultra it gave me around 85C , i was thinking to setup a cooler table below the laptop

the good things i bought a high end gaming desktop and I'm not using the gaming laptop anymore , it's just for office normal work and sometimes i play games one min or 5min depending on my boss if he's away from me, LOL just kidding thk guys again.
