Should I upgrade my motherboard to Gigabyte GA-Z170-D3H to overclock my processor in order to have higher performance?

you can overclock non-k cpus with z170 mobos.
I've done it myself with GA-Z170-HD3P mobo on the same cpu you have i5 6400
you'll need to do research on it as there are specific details you have to follow and overclocking settings are different than the legit -k series
