Secondary HDD periodically spins up when accessing data/gaming, causing 1-2 second lag.

Hi,

I have an MSI PE60 2QE with a 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD (for data/games) and a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD (boot drive). I have this problem where my HDD periodically spins up whenever I try to access data, or even things like opening new tabs on chrome. It would be bearable in those situations however this also happens when I'm gaming and I get a 1-2 second lag spike which is extremely irritating.

I have read other threads with this issues and tried some fixes, none of which worked. I have set the HDD power options to "never" turn off, which didn't work, and I have done a SMART test using HD Tune, which showed no errors or damaged blocks, so I'm out of ideas as to what it could be.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have got round it so far by just using my SSD to put games on, but it's not a very large SSD so I'd like a fix if possible.

Thank you!

You would have to go into the configuration menu of such programs and see if constant scanning is clicked on, constant logging is clicked on. To me, functionality and security are on opposite ends of a seesaw, one side down too much (too much assertiveness) means the other side is up too much (not smoothly doing the jobs). I'm only guessing at one possible cause, your search of the settings might very well prove me guessing incorrectly.

How would I go about finding out if this is the case?
