I have 2 sticks of 4 GB ram pc2-6400u-666-12-e3 and can't get them to run at 800mhz I believe this is due to the timing but I am new to ram timings so I'm not completely sure how to set it up if anyone can help that would be great

Download, install and then run CPU-Z.

Under CPU-Z SPD tab, and if necessary select another memory slot at the top left of CPU-Z, take note of the timings and voltage for 400 MHz (this is the actual memory clock frequency; memory runs at twice this because it is DDR).

Note -

CAS# Latency (also known as CL, or t[sub]CL[/sub])
RAS# to CAS# (also known as t[sub]RCD[/sub])
RAS# Precharge (also known as t[sub]RP[/sub])
tRAS (also known as t[sub]RAS[/sub])
Voltage

Boot into BIOS and enter the above values. Save settings and exit BIOS and reboot.

cpu z wouldnt showed the spd as blank for both slots so i looked online and it said the best thing to do was to use AIDA64 instead and it should the current timings
this is what i got for 400 mhz
@ 400 MHz 6-5-5-16 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 22-79-3-6-3-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

not too sure what the next step would be with these results

I've set these settings but if I set 800mhz with them it just blue screens me but works with 400mhz

I guess this ram works up to 1333 mhz, if the 666 on the trade symbolizes the rated frequency. Anything above 1333mhz is actually overclocking the ram and i doubt it will work but what you can primarily try to play with CAS latency (loosen the timing) and raise the voltage by 0.05 increments. Leave the rest as auto

The DDR2 memory (pc2-6400u-666-12-e3) is rated to run at 800 MHz. The "666" means the CL is "6", t[sub]RCD[/sub] is "6", and t[sub]RP[/sub] is also "6".

If CPU-Z doesn't show timings and voltages for the memory, then use either Aida64 or HWiNFO to find the t[sub]RAS[/sub] value and also the corresponding voltage for these timings at 800 MHz (= 400 MHz clock frequency).

Then enter the memory timings and voltage into BIOS.

Cool. Didn't imagine that

AIDA64 stated the tRAS as 16 so i set the timings as u said 6-6-6-16 and went though all the voltages available but all i got was blue screens or it would freeze on the splash screen any other ideas?
