I'm installling the CM Hyper T4 on a Gigabyte FX-990.
I realized that I threw away the stock am3 mounting bracket and backplate which are needed for the Hyper T4 to mount onto the CPU.
I ordered the stock mounting bracket and backplate and it should come in a month.
I was wondering if it'd be okay to just place the cooler on the cpu with thermal paste and leave the motherboard outside the case as a temporary solution.

Also, mounting squeezes out air pockets in the thermal paste and insures it's the correct thickness for optimal heat transfer from the CPU to the cooler. Not mounting the cooler correctly will have the same result as not having any cooler installed.

So out of stubbornness, I decided to try it anyways.
I had to hold the CPU cooler in place and run the system until the paste solidified.
It doesn't move anymore.
