Hello dear community,

I really lost fucking track over Intels Budget CPU Lineup.
Please help me, I am running a GTX1070 with an overclocked Xeon X5650 @3,9Ghz on my Asus X58 Sabertooth. I payed about 200€ for that. I can receive an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme for around 70€ and an i7 3930K. But I would need to buy 2400Mhz DDR3 RAM (16GB = 120€). I actually want to know if there is any performance increase between those two Hexacores. Actually I am only using it for Gaming on 1080p 144Hz. I usually get between 90-60 FPS on Max Settings in the triple A titles. I want to know, should I sell all of these parts or should I invest in the X79 2011 Platform OR get myself an i7 6700K/7700K with Z170/Z270 Mainboard and faster DDR4 RAM. I mean, I need the faster IPC but how much will the i7 7700K be faster than the X5650 @3,9Ghz.? Is the 3930K very much faster than the Xeon X5650? They're close to the same specs. Both 32nm, OC to 4Ghz. The only thing that's different is the unlocked multiplier and the faster DDR3 RAM I will have to get for X79. Is all that worth it or do you think selling and upgrading to Z170/Z270 is worth it? Help me pls.. I don't know how much faster it will be.. nobody ever fcking tests budget vs mainstreambuild

Each Gen has been around 5% faster clock for clock i5 for i5. So you gain 5% going to 2xxx's 5% 3xxx's 5% 4xxx's 5% to the 6xxx's and 5% to the 7xxx's So a 7700k should be around 20% faster and you will have better IO and storage solutions. From a gaming setup if a 7700k does 100 FPS you can expect 70-80 fps with the same card.
