Hi,i have an p6t deluxe and i want to use an m.2 driver as boot,or storage is the first is not possible.I have in mind the intel 600p 120gb,what I want to ask is,will it work with a simple pcie to m.2 adapter? And will the write-read speeds be better than a regular ssd on sata2? thanks in advance

Funny to stumble on linking to my old thread over at tpu.

But to the matter. Yes you can get m.2 to work. But you are forced to use Samsung 950 Pro m.2 ssd. This ssd has an legacy mode or opt-rom build in its firmware so that old motherboards can access it from bios. Bios ses as a ide drive. But it will only work then sata controller is set to ahci. Raid will not work. 950 pro can also boot on x58.

If you ask me yes its worft it. My old x58 system got more snappy and load software and windows faster. Havent tryed with games yet.

Just remember other m.2 ssd will not work including samsungs own 960 evo/pro cause they do not have legacy mode. They might work with som tweak but 950 pro works with out any hassel.

I'm in the same boat as you with my x58 system. I found this forum post asking the same thing https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/m-2-ssd-on-old-x58-system-with-m-2-pci-adaptor-can-it-work.231611/

From what I have read there, it seems Samsung in particular has included driver support for older chipsets. It sounds like the answer may depend. I hope someone else has good input on this, as I'm curious about this myself.
