Hiya, just looking for some input on my build. It will be my first time building a pc other then just swapping out graphics cards and power supplies. I have a 9 year old HP desktop thats nearing its life, the latest GPU I've acquired for it is too much for it and it won't be long before it craps the bed so its finally time for an upgrade!

It will mostly be used for gaming, playing SC2, LoL, Grim Dawn and Diablo 3, dual monitor setup. May never OC it but it would be nice to have the option. Be nice to get similar longevity to my current desktop.

Parts list:

Total price is $1093.92

My budget isn't really 100% set in stone, generally around $1k cdn with a bit of room to go up if it the replacement part(s) would be worth it in the long run. Thanks for reading and for any helpful comments.

Looks good!
A few comments though,
a) look to getting a better power supply. The EVGA 500B will do, however something more powerful would be good for a build of this calibre
b) why do you need a DVD burner?
C) For a build of this cost, not getting an SSD is a really, really bad idea. Halve your RAM, get a cheaper motherboard, and don't get a DVD burner if you don't need one, and get a 120gb or 240gb ssd
D) If you are doing almost anything other than gaming (streaming, video editing etc.) then a Ryzen 5 system, based around a 1600 would be cheaper and better for anything multi-threaded. Because Ryzen supports overclocking on their more budget chipset (B350) it would be cheaper.
E) Just thought I'de mention that you can't overclock with that motherboard, although you probably already know!

Hope this helps!

For storage you are better off with:
Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB As storage, instead of the 2TB Seagate
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MwW9TW/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd10ezex
and Sandisk - SSD PLUS 240GB as the OS drive (For Windows).
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BNGj4D/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sdssda240gg25

You can look around for different models of the SSD as prices vary a bit. Samsung and Crucial are good brands as well.

For your power supply 500W is enough however it's not amazing quality compared to some other units available:

Your RAM is fine at 16GB as games are slowly creeping past 8GB. Best to be a bit future proof.
For your CPU cooler you could lower the price on that a bit to an air cooler if money is an issue. Hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply,
Actually I didn't know the mobo wasn't compatible for overclocking, thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'm just a little overwhelmed as far as selection goes.
This pc will just be strictly for playing games, I don't do any editing and streaming videos is done solely on the xbox.
I will add a SSD for sure, any specific brands to mention? Looking at this right now: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 240GB SATA III
As far as the burner, it was a bit of an afterthought. Just added it for the drive really, I burn cds for listening to in the jeep.

Make part picker lists guys.
An SSD would be poor value here, add it later down the line, the v300 is terrible, stick to the SSD PLUS, Adata SP550 and U800, UV400 if it's cheap, and the 850 Evo/960 Evo 240GB/250GB/256GB SSDs.
@OP, get this.

Op already owns a Evga 500b and gtx1050ti chug...

This build is enough that it'll handle anything should op decide to change up the 1050ti to something like the 580 in the future, the 6c/12t is considerably stronger than the i7 wannabe 4c/8t. It's also got a solid platform to start with for any OC.

Dunno about anyone else, but personally I'd rather spring for a new gpu than go through the hours of work it takes to fully add an SSD as boot drive and have to reinstall everything all over again or end up cloning then having to track down a bunch of folder moves to hdd

Solution
Oh jeez okay.
I will admit though $9 is a steal for that, i'd prob do the same. :p
If you can't return the 1050Ti get this.
