So not sure this is where I ask this but I've got a 1tb external hard drive and until recently no problems but now when ever I plug it into my Xbox one it constantly restarts it and won't get past the start up page, now what I'm wondering is can the hard drive be saved or should I start saving for a new one

The drive may have a sector error, cable issues, or its just the latest update needs a new format. Try new cable, connected to another port, and try formating. See if a game will work off it after format to make sure. If none of these work it could be your drive is busted. You could hook it upto a PC and use the drive makers tools to test its smart, generic, and self test.
