How to completely disable my laptop touchpad?

Self-explanatory title but I will put some more information here.
Recently my laptop screen has been waking up randomly during the day and I found out the reason was my faulty touchpad randomly clicking or moving. I always use a mouse and pretty much never use the touchpad so I want to know if there's a way to completely disable my touchpad (without unplugging the touchpad cable or messing with BIOS).

I tried uninstall ASUS touchpad in Device Manager, still can use touchpad. I also tried disable HID-compliant mouse, only to find out that I couldn't use my external mouse.

There is usually a hotkey combination you can press on the keyboard to disable the touchpad.

The HID-compliant mouse was probably your external mouse. Of course it would stop working when you disable that.

Uninstalling the ASUS touchpad device in Device Manager won't work either as Windows will just redetect and reinstall a driver for it the next time it looks for hardware. What you want to do is disable the device in Device Manager, not uninstall it, however using the keyboard hotkey would be simpler.

Without knowing the specific make and model of laptop, it's hard to say if you have a keyboard combination to disable the touchpad, and if you do, what it is.

My laptop is ASUS K501LB and it has a touchpad toggle, which is Fn+F9, but it seems not to work as I could still use the touchpad. I will try disabling the device.

I wouldn't be surprised if ASUS uses extra Windows software to monitor their hotkeys, but I can't say, as I rarely use ASUS products.

If using the keyboard hotkey doesn't work, there is nothing wrong with disabling the touchpad through Device Manager. It just means you have to use Device Manager again to re enable it.

It was my ATK Package not being up-to-date with the touchpad driver. A quick update of all the drivers solved it, I can use the touchpad toggle shortcut now.
