my external hard drive (transcend 1tb) lags up every time i plug it in. when i plug it in, the light blinks as if it's transferring something and when i click on the drive, it suddenly lags. when i refresh my laptop, the screen suddenly turns green but as soon as i unplugged the hard drive, everything goes back to normal. i know the problem lies in the hard drive as i've tested it on my sister's laptop, (we both have windows 10 os) and the same thing happened, but i don't know what to do and how to fix the problem.

(i'm sorry i don't know technology that well, hence the simple language)

Well, if you kept true to a backup being a second copy then you would just get the data from the source copy. But it sounds like this was your only copy and you sadly have no backup.

You may be able to remove the drive and put it in another enclosure or mount internally to another pc. This will help determine if its the enclosure having the issue or the drive itself. Most times its just a normal sata drive that in an enclosure.

If the data is valuable you may just want to send it to a data recovery specialist, this will be expensive though.
