Using Old Hard drive

I have an old hard drive with files I need access to. Which of the following ways should I go to do this? When each hard drive was used, I had the same hard ware configuration, only the Windows version change from 7 to 10.

1) Unplug current hard drive and plug in same cables into old hard drive. Will this deactivate my current Windows 10 installation which was upgraded from the same license of Windows 7? Will it do anything funny to my BIOS configurations? Any other concerns?

2) Should I keep current hard drive plugged in but plug in old hard drive with a SATA cable? The old hard drive has Windows 7 on it Current hard drive uses Windows 10. Will it work? If so, do I need to do any preparation?

3) Do something else?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Option 2, with internet disconnected.

Personally I would go with my previous suggestion of a USB dock, but that's just me.
Those things come in very handy over the years.

Well, this depends on what, exactly, you wish to do.

Just copy some stuff off that old Win 7 drive? That would probably work.
I wouldn't boot up the WIn 7 OS....just copy some stuff off that drive.
