Combining different ram speeds

When adding another set of ram to a system does it have to be exactly the same or can the speeds be slightly different, as I have two kits of 2x8gb corsair lpx ddr4 one at 2666 and the other at 3200, basically can I use them both in the same motherboard?

Solution
I would start with setting all the RAM settings to auto. If they POST at 2666Mhz then stress test it. If it boots up at a slower speed you can try bumping them up to 2666 before stress testing (although you may not be able to). If you don't have an 'auto' setting then yes, start with 2666Mhz.

Edit - you don't set the kits or sticks to different speeds. You set one speed that ALL the sticks will run at. (or auto and let the MB decide)
You can try.
It's a crap shoot and sometimes the MB doesn't stay stable. If it does work they will all run at the slower speed.
I recommend running some stress tests (boot off memtest 86+ for a couples) to verify stability at the 2666Mhz speed before continuing to use.

So could I just set the faster kit to run at 2666 instead of 3200 as I would presume that the small decrease in speed wouldn't affect the performance an aweful lot?
