I recently bought a SSD and reinstalled windows on it and I'm in the process of moving some programs over from my hdd to my ssd. However I was wondering if the programs the I plan on keeping on my hdd would still run automatically and normally like norton internet security.

Solution

They need to be deleted from where they are, and reinstalled.
You can select which drive to install them on, but they need to be reinstalled.

In fact, that entire drive needs to be wiped of everything.
Then start with a blank slate.
Install applications as needed.

"moving programs", how, exactly.
You can't just copy/paste them to the SSD.

All your applications need to be actually reinstalled.
You can install them on either drive, but they will not run properly in their current locations.

I was copying the steam folder in program files to my ssd and I was then planning on deleting it on my hdd and then creating a shortcut to put on the desktop in the ssd. However I was wondering if Norton Security would still work when you say it would not run properly on the hdd. I did successfully move Firefox over and all my password and logins where saved, I'm in the process of moving steam but it's going to take hours.

The SteamApps folder and its games is fine.
The Steam client, and all your other applications, will need to be installed again. Including Norton.

(But I wouldn't install Norton)

Also for applications like norton security which I want on the hdd should I delete them on the hdd and reinstall them on the hdd? Or will they work as normal on the hdd I previously had windows 10 on?
