My laptop shuts down when my CPU is at 100%. How can I fix it?

My laptop shuts down whenever my CPU reaches 100% after a few minutes whenever I try to render videos with Adobe Premiere. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5733Z-4851 and I got it about 6 years ago. The CPU is a Dual-Core Intel Pentium P6100 w/ 4GB DDR3 Memory. I have a laptop cooler underneath my laptop but i don't think it helps.

I would imagine your laptop is overheating, probably because it is full of dust after six years. I took a two year old Acer apart a few months ago that was shutting down and it had an almost solid block of dust on the heat sink. Personally I would take it apart and clean it (load temps fell roughly 20C on that laptop once it was cleaned).

The majority of laptops I have fixed that are turning off or throttling performance have had a similar problem so it is definitely a good place to start.

You can use something like Core Temp to see what temp your laptop is hitting under load but these programs aren't always totally accurate anyway.
