Hey about a week ago my hdds used to run from 31c to 34c~ (31c only at night when its cold tbh)
Then i removed my optical drive from my case to make more room above my hdd because i thought this would result in cooler temps...
After i did that my temps ranged more from 33-36c~ (33c only at night just like the 31c before!)
Then i obviously reacted and built in the optical drive again....but my temps still at 35-37c now for aparently no reason at all

I only removed and built back in the optical drive, i didnt change any fan speeds or anything else
What are other possible reasons for a hdd suddenly getting hotter?

Solution
Glad you are set.

Aside: HDDs use a lot more power when operating then at idle, and spinning drives use even more power with a random access workload than with sequential. Could be you had more load on your HDD when you measured it hot than when it was cold.
The CD-ROM's case helps by conducting and dissipating heat away. Its possible the CD-ROM case made contact with the drive before and now it may just be rails that making contact. Think of the CD-ROM's case as a heatsink for the HD because the CD-ROM makes little or no heat while used or not.

its a basic finish pc case,so no idea what its called
I have a 120mm front fan near the ground above that are 2 cages for things like cardreaders etc above this are 2 more cages that are used by hdd and a optical drive above the hdd.
with the lower temps i had the cardreader installed under my hdds but as i never used it i moved it out of the case so theres nothing but air under the cage where my hdd is montaged (its screwed in onto the metall plate of the case and below that was the cardreader that i have removed.

other than that well i just moved some cables away from my mainboard and stuffed the into the cageholder where the cardreader was before...
could the metall of the cardreader passive cooled the hdds slightly? and now thats missing? ( i dont really see how this would work tho as there still a metallplate between the hdd and card reader)...any ideas with those infos?

case name is aparently csl 6009 and thats the only pic i could find...

top to bottomg its dvd drive --> hdd slot --> card reader

here you can see the case open (not mine but its the same one) :

in the "empty" one i had nothing at all earlier but after building out the card reader i kinda stuffed the non used cables from my psu in there (but i changed this yesterday so its empty again --> same temps as before still not getting cooler)

aparently it was only due to summertemps
today its colder and my temps are mostly back to normal (earlier i had 32-34c temps) today im at 30-31 mostly (i put a ventilator pushing air into my case from the side. without that i would be at my regular 32-34c)

Glad you are set.
