I recently built a new computer and put in a $20 wifi card. My room is upstairs and a few walls and floors away from my router. My card drops the signal every 30 seconds. I need a pci wifi card with great range. Willing to spend up to $70. Already tried powerline adapter those did not work as my computer is too far away and my house has no cat5 or Ethernet.

Any and all help is appreciated

Powerline has a much better chance to work at distance than wifi. You would have to have a extremely huge house to exceed the distance limitations on powerline. Now it may not work because of interference or if you use the older model powerlines like av200 of even av500 those did not work as well as the new av2-1200 ones.

There is not a huge difference between pci cards. The ones that have antenna that are attached via cable are a little better because you can locate them away from the case. WiFi signals have more trouble going verticle in a house because of how antenna are designed.

All you can really do it try it since it greatly depends on the construction of your house. Some houses that have very dense walls and floors...
