I found a good deal for a MSI GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X, 499 euros, and am pretty much ready to grab it but i wonder if i'll be disappointed with performance compared to a ti? I need rock solid performance because i'm using a 144hz freesync monitor, was waiting for Vega but AMD dropped the ball too hard.

They already delayed it 2 more months and it took 2 vegas to run Prey at 4k. I'm very much done waiting.

Do keep in mind that around here they are almost twice the cost, this one is 499 and the one you're talking about is a minimum of 836 euros

Amazon but it's pretty much everywhere in Europe with those prices. The fact that it's the "top dog" means that it never gets any cool discounts.

i just bought a gtx 1080 because the deal was simply to good to pass up. i would have liked a 1080ti, but at nearly 300 bucks more it simply doesnt seem like it would have been worth it. especially since im gaming a 60hz. but if you are set on 144hz, then id go for a 1080ti.

What country are you in?
I'm certain I can find a better price. :)

If extremely reluctant to get worse value for my money. if the 1080ti was better money for the performance i'd get it no questions asked but that isn't the case.

What are you after, you say 1080p 144Hz ultra but is 100+ fps ok or are you wanting to get as close as possible to a minimum fps of 144 @ ultra which even the 1080Ti cannot do in some games.

Also what cpu do you have? High fps gaming is very cpu dependent and is where a modern i7 excels.

I'm not sure, i'm using a freesync monitor and don't have the money to upgrade to a gsync right now so i need the high and stable framerates. I think 100 stable would be enough

As for the CPU i have a non k i7-4790, here's my full build:
