I bought a cat5 network cable (I just wanted to have a new one for my new system I'm building). I noticed that they also had cat6 network cables for sale. I have a 300 download/300 upload internet cable connection. The cat5 network cable I bought should work fine right? Or does using a cat6 benefit me in any way or speed up my connection? Here is the type of cat5 cable I bought: E303085 UTP 24AWG 4PR ETL verified to EIA/TIA 568B CAT5E Patch Cable

Thanks in advance for the help!

Solution
i assume thats cat 5e cable

so good for up to 1Gbs far as i remember

and cat 6 up to 10Gbs and better for long runs of cable probably

so cat 5e is plenty for what you need
also your internet bandwidth is only 300mbps so cat 6 and cat 5e cable are overkill with the bandwidth you have. if you have a media server shared on your home network and have a modem/router cable of gigabit speeds then you could take advantage of it in a local setting seperate from the internet

Yeah it says CAT5E. So cat5 and cat6 don't have a speed performace difference? My connection speed will run the same with either cable with my 300mb down/300mb upload speed?

each category can have a different speed and max bandwidth rate. here is an article explining them. while reading this keep in mind what you internet speed is
