Hi,

I am just looking for a new laptop for the sims 4 and the expansion packs for the future. I don't want to go over the top with a really expensive laptop. Maximum budget is €500, just want something that has loads of room for the packs and wont crash on me. If anyone could offer me some links of reasonable priced laptops I would be really appreciate it :)

Thanks,

Shannon

I recommend against that laptop because the Intel HD 4000 graphics core integrated in the Core i5-3320M is not very powerful. The link below contains benchmarks of various integrated graphic cores and dedicated graphic chip used to play the Sims 4 (base game only). The Intel HD 4000 has not been benchmarked, but the Intel HD 4400 (which is one generation newer and a bit more powerful) has been becnhmarked.

With medium settings the Intel HD 4400 managed less than 30 FPS (frames per second). Medium settings is 1366x768 resolution with graphic settings set to medium. A current 7th generation Intel Core i5-7200u with the Intel HD 620 graphic core gets just below 60 FPS with...

This is a very good laptop because it has a very good CPU (Intel Core I5 and 16GB RAM) which both are very good for the Sims. Most laptops that exist should be able to run sims though, it's very easy to run. I suggest you try it on your current PC, it probably works!

A current 7th generation Intel Core i5-7200u with the Intel HD 620 graphic core gets just below 60 FPS with the same settings. The Intel HD 620 gets a little less than 30 FPS when playing on high settings which is 1920x1080 resolution and high graphic settings. But lowering the graphic settings at 1080p should push average performance above 30 FPS.

I recommend getting a laptop with at least 8GB of RAM. Most laptops only have 1 stick of RAM installed. I recommend you look for a laptop with 2 stick of RAM installed, or simply purchasing a compatible stick of RAM (you can always ask after you find a laptop you want to buy) and install it yourself (not very difficult). Two sticks of RAM allows the RAM to run at full speed (dual channel mode) rather than half speed (single channel mode) when there is only one stick of RAM. Integrated graphic cores relies on the RAM installed in the laptop so when the RAM is running at full speed, it can boost the performance of the integrated graphics core by about 10% - 15%. Keep in mind it depends on the game.

The benchmarks are likely based on laptops that have RAM running at full speed.

The laptop I listed has:
16GB RAM, more than enough for sims.
Now in terms of the GPU, sure it isn't the best, but considering a tiny budget, this is half decent considering on low graphics you'll be getting around 146.55 FPS (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Sims-4-Benchmarked.125840.0.html). Now playing on Low Graphics is what you'd expect from a 300 pound laptop, and it will probably not affect you unless your a gamer.

The poster's maximum budget is €500 so it should be possible to buy a laptop with either a core i3-7100u or core i5-7200u; both of which has the Intel HD 620 graphics core.

The Sims 4 will be more limited by the graphics core, not RAM. The RAM can be upgraded (excluding ultrabooks), the graphics core cannot. A laptop with the Intel HD 620 and 8GB of RAM will give much better performance in the Sims 4 compared to a Intel HD 4000 even if the laptop has 32GB of RAM.
