My hyper evo 212 will be fine for years I am sure but planning ahead ( I can hear the future proof neigh sayers coming now ) I am considering as old socket type components become more pricey over the years as they become end of life and are fewer about that it might serve me to buy an aio I want now, store it until 4 or more years down the line and break it out when I want / need to either take my overclock further or upgrade to the 4790k and overclock that.

But as it will be sitting there does anyone have any idea of the shelf life of these things?

The latest processors use the exact mounting their not going to change that anytime soon as not to include the older sockets for the coolers it's just a backplate.

the warranties usually cover from the date of purchase not the date of first use, so I would get a kraken X61 as they have a 6 yr warranty. you can hold off for 4 years and still be covered, if it fails during the 4 years it will be replaced with a new unit.
scroll over to the right, the warranties are the last column

If your looking at that just buy a Cryorig R1 just as good as most AIO coolers and nothing to go bad but a simple fan that can be replaced.
