I was waiting for Vega but they delayed it further and my old GPU died so i went with the MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X which was at a very good price at Amazon.

- As it stands do you think i'll hit any bottlenecks with the CPU and ram which are a bit old by now? For gaming purposes i mean.

- Unfortunately i'm using a freesync monitor, how negatively do you think losing it will affect my gaming experience?

- I also ordered a 4k TV recently so i figured i'd try some occasionally 4k gaming just for the eye candy. I have an old HDMI cable that says it's "high speed" so it should support 4k right?

Here's the TV model in question: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hisense-49-Widescreen-Smart-Freeview/dp/B01E1QQHPK

Thank you for your time

At 144hz sometimes your cpu won't be able to push that many frames. Every system has a bottlneck the word is misedused badly. There isn't a CPU out that's enough better than yours to justify an upgrade today. When you go 4k your 1080 will be the bottleneck more often than the 4790.

for a 1080p at 144hz - GTX 1080 is a bit overkill. for 4K it's a bit under powered.
Your CPU is a good match for this card - don't worry about it.
a faster RAM can provide additional 5-15% FPS in some titles. I think your MB has some overclocking capabilities. check if you can overclock the RAM a bit.

When i say bottleneck i mean in a general sense, i know there's no such thing as a perfectly balanced system.

Note i said Medium/High for 4k. Given the benchmarks i've been seeing i think it's feasible unless the rest of my system is holding me back.

Yep, usually theres loads of settings that hit performance hard but dont make much difference to visual quality.
