I'm building a new pc for gaming and had originally intended to go with an i7 7700k. I've read about the new X series coming out however and that's thrown a bit of a monkey wrench into things for me , i'm not sure if i should wait or not. The one thing that concerns me is that for the new higher core count cpu's, the base clock speeds seem to be fairly low. For gaming purposes, i'm wondering if the safer bet is to stick with the i7 7700k with fewer cores but higher clock speeds? AMD's offerings are certainly tempting for price/performance but i'd like to stick with intel.

If you're using the PC for media creation, there's definitely an advantage with using higher core count CPU's. For gaming, it's less clear. The i7 7700K is certainly state of the art right now and will probably suite your needs for 3 to 4 years. In technology, there's always something better just around the corner!

I've been working on computers for ten years, AMDs are so slow I don't care what anyone says. Most of the time I think the hard drive is going bad because of how slow they are. If you notice a lot of OEM companies are embarrassed to put AMD stickers on their products, but will put the intel sticker on it every time.

Yeah, I have owned AMD cpus in the past and more often then not, i ran into a lot of problems. You pay more for intel definitely but from my experience, they're the way to go.
